Open to the public. This event is a fun and unifying way to bring children, families, civic leaders, business leaders and political leaders together in support of children and legislative policies which will affect the future of every child in the state.

Denver’s Mayor John Hickenlooper and First Lady Helen Thorpe, along with other dignitaries will lead children on decorated tricycles, bikes, scooters, wheelchairs and wagons from Denver’s City & County Building, down Bannock Street and 14th Avenue to the west steps on the lawn of the Colorado State Capitol. Once gathered on the lawn of the Capitol, leading elected officials will speak to the importance of this campaign, followed by a series of fun events for young and old alike. This is a non-partisan, 501(c)3 public education event.

Time: Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. (staging, bike/trike decorating at 9 a.m)
One week before the Democratic National Convention comes to Denver, Colorado children's groups and families will stand together with a message for candidates: “Colorado is standing for children! Want our vote? Put Kids First!” Join us in making children a priority this election season!

“Dear Mr. New President” Letter-writing contest
Time: Immediately following parade
Children of all ages in Colorado have been invited to enter this contest by writing a letter to the next president of the United States. All entries will begin with, “Dear Mr. New President” and will offer wishes, ideas and hopes of the child writing the letter. The top three (3) winners will be given their awards on the west lawn steps of the Capitol and will be asked to read aloud their entries. Copies of all entries will be sent to both presidential campaigns prior to the respective partisan conventions. To enter the contest, click here.

Civic Awakenings
Time: Following award ceremony and throughout the day.
Booths on the Capitol lawn will offer chats with elected officials, voter registration information, and materials from the Denver area civic community including museums, the arts, etc.

Fun For Everyone!
Time: Following award ceremony and throughout the day.
Live music, face painting, snacks, etc.

If you or your children would like to attend, there is no registration required. However, we would appreciate it if you could RSVP with number of participants via voice mail to 720-855-3455.

Large Groups Welcome
If you wish to bring an entire group of children (classroom, church group, preschool, etc.) van and bus parking are available. Call 720-855-3455.
